Ingredients

  • 1 piece Bread (thick slice)
  • 1 piece Large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Black pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Use a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out a circular hole in the center of the bread slice. Set the removed circle aside.

Step 2

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat, then add the butter to the pan and let it melt, evenly coating the surface.

Step 3

Place the bread slice in the skillet. Save the cut-out circle of bread to toast alongside, if desired.

Step 4

Crack the egg into the center of the hole in the bread. Allow it to cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the egg whites are mostly set.

Step 5

Carefully flip the bread and egg using a spatula. Cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes, or until the egg white is fully set but the yolk is still runny (or longer if you prefer a harder yolk).

Step 6

Season the egg with a pinch of salt and optional black pepper. Remove from the skillet and transfer to a plate.

Step 7

Toast the bread circle in the skillet until golden brown and serve it alongside the main dish.

Step 8

Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve immediately.
