Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 stalks green onions (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

Step 2

Finely dice the onion, mince the garlic cloves, and slice green onions (if using) for garnish.

Step 3

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, cornstarch, and water to create the sweet and sour sauce. Set aside.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Step 5

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it into crumbles with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 6

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the onion begins to soften and the garlic is fragrant.

Step 7

Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften.

Step 8

Pour the sweet and sour sauce over the cabbage and beef mixture. Stir to coat everything evenly.

Step 9

Season with salt and black pepper. Let the sauce cook and thicken for another 3-4 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 10

Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions, if desired.

Step 11

Serve hot as a standalone dish or alongside steamed rice for a more filling meal.
