Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium, diced Yellow onion
  • 2 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 0.75 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 pieces Hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (optional, for toasting buns)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until it is fully browned.

Step 3

Drain any excess grease from the skillet.

Step 4

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.

Step 5

Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly combined.

Step 6

Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer uncovered for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 7

While the meat mixture is simmering, optionally toast the hamburger buns. Spread a thin layer of butter on the cut sides of the buns, then place them face-down on a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Toast for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 8

Spoon the Sloppy Joe filling onto the bottom halves of the buns, then top with the other halves.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy!
