Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted butter (divided)
  • 1 quarter cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large Egg

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it just begins to steam (do not bring to a boil). Remove from heat and add 6 tablespoons of the butter, allowing it to melt completely. Stir in the sugar and let the mixture cool until it is lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the mixture becomes foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooled milk mixture, the yeast mixture, 3 cups of flour, salt, and the egg. Stir until a sticky dough forms.

Step 4

Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, a little at a time, until the dough is soft and no longer sticky. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and divide it into 16 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place them close together in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 7

Cover the dish with the kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and brush it over the tops of the rolls.

Step 9

Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush with additional butter, if desired.

Step 10

Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
