Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 0.3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1 cup crumbled chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 12 pieces gummy worms

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.

Step 3

Add the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Step 4

Slowly stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

Step 5

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

Step 7

Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.

Step 8

Once cooled, spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting over the top of each cupcake.

Step 9

Sprinkle the crumbled chocolate sandwich cookies over the frosting to resemble dirt.

Step 10

Press 1-2 gummy worms onto each cupcake, arranging them so they appear to be crawling out of the 'dirt'.

Step 11

Serve and enjoy your spooky Halloween Worm Cupcakes!
