Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 1 large Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes (canned)
  • 15 ounces Tomato sauce (canned)
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 whole Bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil to the skillet.

Step 2

Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in the skillet, breaking the meat apart with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until fully browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3

Drain any excess grease from the skillet, then transfer the cooked meat to the crock pot.

Step 4

In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion until softened and translucent, about 4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring frequently to avoid burning.

Step 5

Transfer the sautéed onion and garlic to the crock pot.

Step 6

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, black pepper, and bay leaf to the crock pot.

Step 7

Stir the mixture well to combine all the ingredients.

Step 8

Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to low heat. Cook the sauce for 6 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 9

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if necessary.

Step 10

Remove the bay leaf before serving.

Step 11

Serve the sauce over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta. Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley if desired. Enjoy!
