Ingredients

  • 1 box Devil's food cake mix
  • 0.5 cup Butter, melted
  • 0.66 cup Evaporated milk
  • 1 cup Caramel candies, unwrapped
  • 0.5 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 as needed Non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the devil's food cake mix, melted butter, and 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk. Stir until a thick dough forms.

Step 3

Press half of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Set the remaining dough aside.

Step 4

Bake the pressed dough layer in the preheated oven for 8 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the caramel candies with the remaining 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat.

Step 6

Pour the melted caramel over the baked brownie layer, spreading it evenly to cover.

Step 7

Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the caramel layer.

Step 8

Drop small spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the caramel and chocolate layer, leaving some gaps to allow the caramel to peek through.

Step 9

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-17 minutes, or until the top layer is set.

Step 10

Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. The caramel will firm up as it cools, making slicing easier.
