Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ribeye steak (thinly sliced)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 medium Onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper (thinly sliced, optional)
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese (or American cheese, sliced)
  • 4 pieces Hoagie rolls (split lengthwise)
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Place ribeye steak in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to firm it up and make it easier to slice thinly. Once firm, slice the steak as thinly as possible against the grain.

Step 2

Season the sliced steak with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.

Step 4

Add the sliced onion (and green bell pepper, if using) to the skillet. Cook, stirring often, until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the thinly sliced steak into the skillet in a single layer.

While the cheese melts, toast the hoagie rolls on a separate skillet or under the broiler until lightly browned and warmed through.

Using a large spatula, scoop each portion of the cheesy steak mixture and place it into the toasted hoagie rolls.
