Ingredients

  • 4 pieces (about 6-8 oz each) ham steaks
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup, packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup whiskey
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped (optional, for garnish) fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add the ham steaks to the skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes per side, or until lightly browned. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining olive oil and butter. Allow the butter to melt completely.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 5

Add the brown sugar and stir until it begins to dissolve into the melted butter and garlic mixture.

Step 6

Carefully pour in the whiskey and stir, letting the alcohol cook off for about 2 minutes.

Step 7

Lower the heat to medium-low and stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens.

Step 8

Return the ham steaks to the skillet, spooning the whiskey sauce over the top so they are fully coated.

Step 9

Cover and let the ham steaks heat through in the sauce for 5-7 minutes over low heat.

Step 10

Transfer the ham steaks to a serving platter and drizzle with any remaining whiskey sauce from the skillet.

Step 11

Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve immediately.
