  • 6 medium-sized Russet potatoes
  • 1 large Yellow onion
  • 200 grams Gruyère cheese
  • 250 milliliters Heavy cream
  • 120 milliliters Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 teaspoons Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoons Paprika powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley
  • 50 grams Breadcrumbs

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with 1/2 tablespoon of the butter.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly (about 1/8-inch thick) using a sharp knife or mandoline. Place the slices in cold water to prevent browning.

Step 3

Peel and thinly slice the onion into rings.

Step 4

Grate the Gruyère cheese and set aside.

Step 5

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the heavy cream, milk, butter, nutmeg, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Heat the mixture gently, stirring occasionally, until the butter melts. Remove from the heat, but do not let the mixture boil.

Layer half of the potato slices on the bottom of the greased baking dish, slightly overlapping each other. Top with half of the onion slices and half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
