Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 3 pieces large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • 1 cup fresh fruit or syrup (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a 10-inch oven-safe skillet (such as cast iron) inside the oven to heat while you prepare the batter.

Step 2

In a blender, combine the flour, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend on high speed for about 30 seconds, or until the batter is smooth and frothy. Alternatively, whisk by hand until completely smooth.

Step 3

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven using oven mitts. Add the butter to the skillet and swirl it around to coat the bottom and sides of the pan. The butter should melt completely but not brown.

Step 4

Pour the prepared batter into the hot, buttered skillet. Immediately return the skillet to the oven.

Step 5

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the Dutch Baby is puffed up and golden brown around the edges.

Step 6

Remove the skillet from the oven and let the Dutch Baby settle slightly. It will deflate a bit as it cools, which is normal.

Step 7

Dust generously with powdered sugar and top with fresh fruit or drizzle with syrup, if desired. Serve immediately, as the Dutch Baby is best enjoyed warm and fresh from the oven.
