Ingredients

  • 2 cups Chocolate cookie crumbs
  • 5 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1.5 quarts Coffee ice cream
  • 1 cup Macadamia nuts, chopped
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 6 ounces Semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • None Whipped cream (for garnish)
  • None Macadamia nuts, whole or halved (for garnish)
  • None Chocolate syrup (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the crust: In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate cookie crumbs and melted butter. Mix until the texture is similar to wet sand.

Step 2

Press the mixture evenly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch springform pan or pie dish. Place the crust in the freezer to firm up for at least 15 minutes.

Step 3

Soften the coffee ice cream slightly by leaving it out at room temperature for 5-10 minutes. Stir in 1 cup of chopped macadamia nuts.

Step 4

Spoon the softened ice cream into the chilled crust, spreading it into an even layer with a spatula. Smooth the top. Place the pie in the freezer for at least 4 hours or until completely firm.

Step 5

Prepare the fudge topping: In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the heavy cream and semisweet chocolate chips. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 6

Once the pie is firm, pour the chocolate fudge sauce over the top of the frozen ice cream layer. Spread evenly with a spatula. Return the pie to the freezer and let it set for an additional 1-2 hours.

Step 7

Before serving, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

Step 8

Garnish the pie with dollops of whipped cream, whole or halved macadamia nuts, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup, if desired.

Step 9

Slice the Hula Pie into wedges and serve immediately. Enjoy your tropical dessert!
