Ingredients

  • 6 medium Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Brandy
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 9-inch crusts Pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, even slices. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.

Step 4

Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss until the apples are well coated with the sugar mixture.

Step 5

Pour the brandy over the apples and mix gently to combine. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 6

Prepare your pie dish by placing one of the pie crusts into it, gently pressing it into the edges.

Step 7

Pour the apple filling into the crust, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

Cut the butter into small pieces and dot it across the top of the apple filling.

Step 9

Place the second pie crust over the filling. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges together to seal. If desired, cut a decorative design or slits into the top crust to allow steam to escape.

Step 10

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush it over the top crust to give it a golden, shiny finish.

Step 11

Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Step 12

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the filling to set.

Step 13

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
