Ingredients

  • 1 slice Bread (any type, preferably thick-cut)
  • 1 unit Large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Black pepper
  • 0.25 cup Cheese (optional, shredded or sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon Parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Use a cookie cutter, a glass, or a knife to cut a round hole (about 2 inches in diameter) in the center of the bread slice. Set the cut-out piece aside.

Step 2

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Let it melt and coat the pan evenly.

Step 3

Place the bread slice in the skillet. Toast the bread for about 1 minute on one side until lightly golden, then flip it over.

Step 4

Crack the egg into the hole in the center of the bread. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper.

Step 5

Let the egg cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the egg white is set but the yolk is still runny. For a firmer yolk, cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

If using cheese, sprinkle it on top of the bread during the last minute of cooking so it has time to melt.

Step 7

Toast the cut-out bread piece in the skillet during the last minute as a crispy accompaniment.

Step 8

Carefully transfer the Egg Hole in One to a plate. Garnish with parsley if desired, and serve immediately with the toasted bread round.
