Ingredients

  • 500 grams fresh figs
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 120 milliliters dry red wine
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Wash the figs thoroughly under running water. Remove the stems and cut the figs into quarters.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the quartered figs, granulated sugar, and red wine. Stir well to coat the figs in sugar and wine.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved completely, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Lower the heat to a gentle simmer and add the lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Stir well to combine.

Step 5

Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the figs soften completely and the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency.

Step 6

Once the jam reaches the desired thickness, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 7

Use a potato masher or immersion blender to break down any large chunks of figs, if desired, for a smoother texture.

Step 8

Carefully transfer the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Seal the jars with their lids.

Step 9

Allow the jars to cool to room temperature before storing the jam in the refrigerator. The jam will keep fresh for up to 3 weeks.
