Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large, chopped yellow onion
  • 3 chopped celery stalks
  • 3 cloves, minced garlic
  • 1 medium, cored and diced Granny Smith apple
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey stock
  • 2 large, beaten eggs
  • 12 cups stale bread cubes
  • 3 tablespoons, chopped fresh sage
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set it aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery, and sauté for 6-8 minutes until softened.

Step 3

Stir in garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the diced apple and dried cranberries to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apple starts to soften.

Step 5

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped sage and thyme. Set the mixture aside to cool slightly.

Step 6

In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes, cooked vegetable mixture, salt, and black pepper.

Step 7

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken or turkey stock and beaten eggs. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes and toss until evenly coated.

Step 8

Transfer the stuffing into the prepared baking dish. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Step 10

Serve warm alongside turkey or as a standalone side dish. Enjoy!
