Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Orange zest
  • 0.25 cup Orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon Kosher salt

Directions

Step 1

Warm the milk in a small saucepan over low heat until it is lukewarm (not boiling). Remove from heat and stir in 3 tablespoons of the butter until melted.

Step 2

Pour the milk mixture into a large mixing bowl and stir in the granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until it begins to foam.

Step 3

Add the eggs, 2 cups of the flour, orange zest, and salt to the bowl. Mix well using a wooden spoon or dough hook attachment on a stand mixer.

Step 4

Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of flour, a little at a time, until the dough comes together. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

While the dough is rising, make the filling. In a small bowl, mix together the orange juice, brown sugar, and the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter (softened) until smooth.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12x18-inch rectangle.

Step 8

Spread the orange sugar filling evenly across the dough, leaving a 1-inch border along one edge. Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log and pinch the seam to seal.

Step 9

Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into 12 equal slices. Arrange the slices in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, cut side up. Cover with a towel and allow to rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 11

While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze. In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange juice, vanilla extract, and kosher salt until smooth and creamy.

Step 12

Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before spreading the glaze generously over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
