Ingredients

  • 4 slices Ham slices
  • 4 slices Rustic bread
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Stone-ground mustard
  • 2 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and stone-ground mustard to create the mustard mayo. Set aside.

Step 2

Slice the tomato into thin rounds and season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Step 4

Once the oil is hot, add the ham slices to the skillet and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust. Remove the ham from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

Butter one side of each bread slice using the 2 tablespoons of butter. Place two slices buttered-side down in the same skillet over medium heat.

Step 6

Layer one slice of cheddar cheese on each piece of bread in the skillet. Top each with 2 slices of the fried ham.

Step 7

Place the other two bread slices buttered-side up on top, forming sandwiches.

Step 8

Cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden-brown and the cheese has melted.

Step 9

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and carefully lift the top slice of bread on each sandwich.

Step 10

Spread the mustard mayo evenly on the inner side of the top slices of bread.

Step 11

Add a lettuce leaf and a few tomato slices on top of the ham and cheese. Replace the top bread slices to close the sandwiches.

Step 12

Slice the sandwiches in half and serve immediately. Enjoy your Down on the Farm Fried Ham Sandwich Longmeadow!
