Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 whole large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cups dark chocolate chips, melted
  • 0.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 2

In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

Step 4

Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two equal portions.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk the cocoa powder and melted dark chocolate with the milk until smooth.

Step 6

Add the cocoa mixture to one portion of the dough, mixing until the color is evenly distributed.

Step 7

Roll out both portions of dough (plain and chocolate) separately between sheets of parchment paper into rectangles approximately 12 inches by 8 inches.

Step 8

Carefully place the chocolate dough rectangle on top of the plain dough rectangle, trimming the edges if necessary to align them.

Step 9

Starting from one of the shorter sides, tightly roll the dough into a log to create a swirl pattern. Wrap the dough log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 11

Unwrap the dough log and slice it into 1/4-inch-thick rounds using a sharp knife. Place the cookies about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Step 12

Sprinkle each cookie with the finely chopped semi-sweet chocolate chips for an extra chocolatey finish.

Step 13

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set but not browned.

Step 14

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 15

Serve and enjoy your luscious Double Chocolate Swirls with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage.
