Ingredients

  • 120 grams unsalted butter
  • 150 grams dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 100 grams light brown sugar
  • 3 pieces large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 120 grams all-purpose flour
  • 30 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 100 grams dark chocolate chips or chunks

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Line an 8-inch (20cm) square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

Step 2

Melt the unsalted butter and dark chocolate together in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method). Alternatively, melt them in the microwave in 20-second increments, stirring after each, until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and the melted chocolate mixture until well combined.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, whisking vigorously after each addition until the mixture is glossy and fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Sift the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt into the bowl. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Fold in the dark chocolate chips or chunks, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.

Step 7

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer using your spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no raw batter.

Step 9

Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then use the parchment paper overhang to lift them out and let them cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into 12 squares.

Step 10

Serve the brownies on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate dessert.
