Ingredients

  • 16 oz Mostaccioli pasta
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 lb Sweet Italian sausage
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 large Yellow onion, diced
  • 28 oz Crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz Tomato sauce
  • 6 oz Tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Dried basil
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the mostaccioli pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat over medium heat and cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, garlic, and diced onion until the meat is browned and the onion is soft, about 10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Step 4

Stir the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste into the skillet with the cooked meat. Add basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar. Let simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, and 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan. Mix well.

Step 6

In a large 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Add half of the cooked pasta, then layer with half of the ricotta mixture. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce on top.

Step 7

Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of mozzarella cheese and the remaining 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy!
