Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.25 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1.5 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into an oval-shaped patty about 1/2-inch thick.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned. They don’t need to be fully cooked at this stage. Remove the patties and set them aside on a plate.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and butter. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook the flour for 1-2 minutes to remove its raw taste.

Step 6

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Stir in the ketchup and Dijon mustard, and let the mixture come to a simmer.

Step 7

Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Cover the skillet and simmer over low heat for 10-12 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked and the gravy thickens.

Step 8

Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if necessary.

Step 9

Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired, and serve the Salisbury steaks hot with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
