Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into thin wedges. Arrange them in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and the ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples.

Step 4

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat, then set aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and the remaining 3/4 cup of granulated sugar.

Step 6

Slowly pour the melted butter and milk into the dry ingredients. Stir until you have a smooth batter. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 7

Pour the batter evenly over the sliced apples in the baking dish, covering them completely.

Step 8

In another bowl, mix together the brown sugar and water until dissolved. Slowly pour this mixture over the batter. It may seem odd, but this will create a delicious caramel sauce as it bakes.

Step 9

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the crust comes out clean.

Step 10

Allow the Apple Puddin' to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
