Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 0 White food coloring or white icing
  • 0 Orange food gel (for carrot noses)
  • 0 Black food gel (for eyes and buttons)
  • 0 Yellow food gel

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Step 4

Add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until a dough forms, but do not overmix.

Step 6

Divide the dough into two portions, roll each portion into a flat disc, and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Step 7

Once the dough has chilled, lightly flour your work surface and rolling pin. Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Step 8

Use snowman-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.

Step 9

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Step 10

To make the icing, whisk together the powdered sugar and water in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more water or powdered sugar if needed.

Step 11

Divide the icing into separate bowls. Keep most of it white, then dye small amounts orange, black, and yellow with the respective food gels.

Step 12

Decorate the cookies: Use the white icing to flood the entire snowman shape. Once it sets slightly, add carrot noses using the orange icing, eyes and buttons with the black icing, and a few (humorous!) yellow spots using the yellow icing.

Step 13

Let the decorated cookies dry completely before serving or storing in an airtight container.
