Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Day-old brioche or challah bread
  • 6 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (for greasing)
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • 0 to taste Maple syrup (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with 1 tablespoon of butter, ensuring all sides are thoroughly coated.

Step 2

Cut the day-old brioche or challah bread into 1-inch cubes and set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Step 4

Add the bread cubes to the custard mixture, gently folding to ensure every piece of bread is evenly soaked. Let the bread soak for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow the custard to fully absorb.

Step 5

Transfer the custard-soaked bread to the greased loaf pan, packing it gently to ensure an even and compact loaf.

Step 6

Place the loaf pan in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top of the loaf is golden brown and the custard is set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

Step 7

Remove the French Toast Loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool slightly.

Step 8

Dust the loaf with powdered sugar, slice into thick pieces, and serve with a drizzle of warm maple syrup.
