Ingredients

  • 500 g ground pork
  • 150 g cabbage
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 3 stalks green onions (scallions)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
  • 35 pieces wonton wrappers
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water (for steaming or sealing wrappers)

Directions

Step 1

Finely mince the cabbage, carrot, and green onions. Crush the garlic cloves into a paste.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, minced cabbage, carrot, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornflour. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until evenly combined.

Step 3

Set up a clean workspace and defrost the wonton wrappers if they were frozen.

Step 4

Place a wonton wrapper in the palm of your hand. Add about 1 heaped teaspoon of the filling in the center of the wrapper.

Step 5

Lightly dampen the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingers to help seal it.

Step 6

Carefully pull the edges of the wrapper upwards around the filling, gently pinching and folding the edges to form a pleated pouch. Leave the top slightly open. Repeat for the remaining filling and wrappers.

Step 7

For steaming: Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent the dim sims from sticking. Arrange the dim sims in a single layer, leaving space between each. Steam over boiling water for 12 minutes, or until cooked through.

Step 8

For frying: Heat vegetable oil in a deep saucepan or fryer to 180°C (350°F). Carefully lower the dim sims into the oil in small batches and fry for 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Step 9

Serve hot with soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or plum sauce for dipping.
