Ingredients

  • 12 cups Cheerios cereal
  • 1.5 cups Butter
  • 12 cups Mini marshmallows
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips (optional)
  • 0.25 cup Sprinkles (optional, for decoration)

Directions

Step 1

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray and set it aside.

Step 2

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning.

Step 3

Once the butter is fully melted, add the mini marshmallows and stir constantly until they are completely melted and smooth.

Step 4

Remove the pot from the heat and quickly stir in the vanilla extract and salt until combined.

Step 5

Add the Cheerios cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture, stirring gently but thoroughly until all the cereal is evenly coated.

Step 6

If you're adding chocolate chips, mix them in at this step. Be aware that the heat may cause them to melt slightly.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using a spatula or wax paper, press the mixture down evenly into the dish.

Step 8

If using sprinkles for decoration, scatter them evenly over the top while the mixture is still warm and gently press them in so they stick.

Step 9

Let the Cheerios squares cool completely in the baking dish, about 30–45 minutes at room temperature.

Step 10

Once cool, cut into 24 squares or your desired size and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
