Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (or heavy cream)
  • 1 pinch Salt

Directions

Step 1

Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing. Place it in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the butter on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until creamy and fluffy.

Step 3

Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, while continuing to mix on low speed to avoid creating a sugar cloud.

Step 4

Once all the powdered sugar is incorporated, add the vanilla extract, milk (or heavy cream), and a pinch of salt.

Step 5

Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat the mixture for another 3-4 minutes until the icing is smooth, fluffy, and spreadable.

Step 6

If the icing is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk at a time until the desired consistency is achieved. If it’s too thin, add a tablespoon of powdered sugar at a time.

Step 7

Optionally, add food coloring or other flavor extracts to customize your icing.

Step 8

Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, cookies, or other pastries, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before using.
