Ingredients

  • 6 ounces Tomato paste (no sugar added)
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1.5 teaspoons Liquid stevia (or preferred sugar substitute)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon Liquid smoke (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, and water. Stir until smooth.

Step 2

Add the liquid stevia, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, cinnamon, ground mustard, and liquid smoke (if using). Whisk all the ingredients together until well combined.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened and the flavors meld together.

Step 5

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add a bit more liquid stevia, 1/4 teaspoon at a time, to suit your taste.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the BBQ sauce cool to room temperature.

Step 7

Use immediately as a glaze, dipping sauce, or marinade, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
