Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Chipotle in adobo sauce
  • 0.5 cup Mayonnaise
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 pieces Sharp cheddar cheese slices
  • 1 large Avocado
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lime juice
  • 2 pieces Jalapeños (optional, for topping)
  • 1 cup Shredded lettuce
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix with your hands until just combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾-inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indent in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Step 2

Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly brush the surface with vegetable oil to prevent sticking. Cook the burger patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

Step 3

While the burgers are cooking, prepare the chipotle mayo. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and chipotle in adobo sauce until smooth. Set aside.

Step 4

Cut and scoop the avocado into a bowl. Mash it with a fork until smooth but slightly chunky. Stir in the fresh lime juice and a pinch of salt for seasoning.

Step 5

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a skillet for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers: Spread a layer of chipotle mayo on the bottom half of each bun. Add a handful of shredded lettuce, followed by the burger patty with melted cheese. Top with a dollop of mashed avocado and a few slices of jalapeño (if using). Finish with the top half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh salad. Enjoy your devilishly delicious Southwest burger!
