Ingredients

  • 2 pieces (approximately 8 oz each) beef ribeye steaks
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 pieces (minced) garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon (freshly ground) black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 2 pieces (sliced into thin rings) red chili peppers
  • 1 tablespoon (chopped) fresh parsley
  • 0.5 pieces (juiced) lemon

Directions

Step 1

Take the ribeye steaks out of the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix the salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and red chili flakes. Rub this spice mixture evenly on both sides of the steaks.

Step 3

Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and let it heat until shimmering.

Step 4

Place the steaks onto the hot skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side to develop a crust. Reduce the heat to medium.

Step 5

Add the unsalted butter, minced garlic, thyme sprigs, and sliced red chili peppers to the skillet. Tilt the skillet slightly and spoon the melted butter mixture over the steaks, basting them continuously for 3-5 minutes or until they reach your desired internal temperature (135°F for medium-rare).

Step 6

Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate, tented with foil, for about 5 minutes to keep the juices intact.

Step 7

Deglaze the skillet by squeezing the juice of half a lemon into the remaining butter and chili mixture, stirring well to create a pan sauce.

Step 8

Pour the pan sauce over the steaks and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Step 9

Serve the Devil's Steak immediately with your favorite sides such as roasted potatoes or steamed vegetables.
