Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Reduce the mixer speed to low. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the buttermilk to the butter mixture in three additions, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
Slowly pour in the hot coffee, stirring until the batter is just combined and smooth. The batter will be thin; this is normal.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula if necessary.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the frosting, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together in a medium bowl until creamy and smooth, about 2 minutes.
Add the brown sugar and beat on high speed until completely combined, about 1 minute.
Gradually sift in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream, and beat on high speed until the frosting is fluffy and spreadable, about 2 minutes.
Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a generous layer of frosting on top of one cake layer. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake evenly.
Slice and enjoy your decadent Devil's Food Cake with Brown Sugar Cream Cheese Frosting!
