Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and onion until the meat is browned and the onion is tender, about 7-10 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse them with cold water to prevent sticking. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley until well combined.
Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce across the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping if necessary.
Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture evenly over the noodles. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella over the top, then spoon 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce over the cheese layer.
Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, meat sauce) two more times, ending with a final layer of noodles and meat sauce.
Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella evenly over the top. Drizzle 1/4 cup of water around the edges of the lasagna to prevent drying.
Bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.
Remove from oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the layers to set.
