Ingredients

  • 6 medium Tomatoes
  • 1 large Onion
  • 4 whole Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the tomatoes and remove the stems. Cut them into quarters.

Step 2

Peel the onion and cut it into thick slices.

Step 3

Peel the garlic cloves and keep them whole.

Step 4

Place the quartered tomatoes, onion slices, and whole garlic cloves in a single layer on the trays of your dehydrator. Ensure there is space between pieces for proper airflow.

Step 5

Set your dehydrator to 135°F (57°C) and dehydrate the ingredients for 4 hours, or until they are slightly shriveled and most of the moisture is gone but not completely dry.

Step 6

Once dehydrated, transfer the tomatoes, onions, and garlic to a blender or food processor.

Step 7

Add apple cider vinegar, honey, smoked paprika, chili powder, ground cumin, sea salt, black pepper, and water to the blender.

Step 8

Blend on high until the mixture is smooth, and all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Step 9

Pour the blended mixture into a saucepan and simmer over low heat for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to thicken the sauce and deepen the flavors.

Step 10

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more honey for sweetness or vinegar for tanginess.

Step 11

Allow the barbecue sauce to cool, then transfer it to an airtight container or jar. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Step 12

Serve the sauce with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or as a dipping sauce for your favorite dishes!
