Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.25 cups Warm water
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 2.25 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 cup Olive oil
  • 14 oz Crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried basil
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium Bell pepper (sliced)
  • 0.5 medium Red onion (sliced)
  • 2 cups Baby spinach
  • 1 cup Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 0.5 cup Black olives (sliced)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough comes together.

Step 3

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 4

While the dough rises, prepare the sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté minced garlic in 1 tablespoon of olive oil until fragrant (about 1 minute). Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, then set aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch deep-dish pizza pan or cast-iron skillet.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a circle large enough to cover the base and sides of the pizza pan. Carefully press the dough into the pan, making sure it extends up the sides.

Step 7

Sprinkle a thin layer of shredded mozzarella cheese over the base of the dough to help prevent it from getting soggy. Layer the spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper, red onion, and black olives on top.

Step 8

Spread the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the vegetables. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and the Parmesan cheese over the sauce.

Step 9

Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

Step 10

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your homemade deep dish veggie pizza!
