Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 cups Olive oil
  • 1.25 cups Warm water
  • 6 cups Fresh spinach
  • 3 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves Minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 0.25 teaspoons Red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.

Step 2

Add the olive oil and warm water to the dry ingredients, then stir until the dough starts to come together.

Step 3

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 5

While the dough rises, prepare the sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, sauté the minced garlic in a tablespoon of olive oil until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 6

Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan. Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly. Set aside to cool.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a deep-dish pizza pan or a large cast-iron skillet with olive oil.

Step 8

Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a large circle, approximately 14 inches in diameter. Carefully transfer the dough to the prepared pan, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides.

Step 9

Layer the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough, followed by the fresh spinach leaves.

Step 10

Pour the prepared tomato sauce over the spinach layer, spreading it evenly. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.

Step 11

Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Step 12

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your deep-dish spinach and mozzarella pizza!
