Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium Onion (thinly sliced)
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands until well combined.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium and melt the butter in the same skillet. Add the onion and mushrooms, cooking for 5-7 minutes until softened and golden.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring continuously for 1-2 minutes to cook the flour.

Step 6

Slowly add in the beef broth, a little at a time, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Cover the skillet and let everything simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.

Step 8

Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
