Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 0.5 pound Ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 3 pieces Hoagie buns or brioche rolls
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons Mayonnaise (optional)
  • 0.25 cup Banana peppers (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the sliced green bell pepper and onion to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, heat an additional tablespoon of olive oil and add the thinly sliced ribeye steak. Season with 0.5 teaspoons of salt and 0.25 teaspoons of black pepper.

Step 4

Cook the steak for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 5

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, remaining salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently to combine, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 6

Divide the ground beef mixture into three equal portions and shape into burger patties.

Step 7

Heat a separate skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

Step 8

In the last minute of cooking, place 2 slices of provolone cheese on each patty, covering to let the cheese melt.

Step 9

While the burgers are cooking, toast the hoagie buns or brioche rolls with a thin layer of butter in a clean skillet until golden brown.

Step 10

Assemble the burger: spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun (if using). Add the burger patty with melted cheese, then layer with the cooked ribeye steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and optional banana peppers.

Step 11

Top with the other half of the bun and serve warm.
