Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 15 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 12 pieces Lasagna noodles
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook until the meat is browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Step 3

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add water as needed to ensure the sauce does not become too thick.

Step 4

While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles for about 8 minutes until they are al dente. Drain and rinse them in cold water to prevent sticking, then set them aside.

Step 5

In a medium mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Step 6

To assemble the lasagna, spread 1 cup of prepared meat sauce evenly onto the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 7

Arrange 3 cooked lasagna noodles lengthwise over the sauce.

Step 8

Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by approximately 1 cup of shredded mozzarella and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan.

Step 9

Repeat the layering process (sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan) two more times, finishing with a final layer of meat sauce on top.

Step 10

Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top layer of sauce.

Step 11

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese layer.

Step 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 13

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
