Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and chopped onion until the meat is browned and crumbled, about 8 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
