  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage

  • 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and chopped onion until the meat is browned and crumbled, about 8 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, meat sauce, and Parmesan, ending with a final layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure it doesn't touch the cheese layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 11

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.

Allow the lasagna to cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
