Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Chicken wings
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger, finely grated
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons Water
  • 2 Green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2

Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels and arrange them in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3

Bake the chicken wings for 25 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden and crisp.

Step 4

While the wings are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Slowly pour this into the saucepan with the sauce, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens to a syrup-like consistency. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 6

Once the chicken wings are cooked, transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Pour the sauce over the wings and toss until they are evenly coated.

Step 7

Return the coated wings to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 10 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize.

Step 8

Remove the wings from the oven and transfer them to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy these delicious Japanese-inspired chicken wings!
