Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1.25 cups Creamy peanut butter
  • 0.5 cups Vegetable oil
  • 1.5 cups Whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1.5 cups Dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for frosting)
  • 10 Mini peanut butter cups (optional)
  • 0.5 cups Crushed peanuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Alternatively, line the pans with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In another large bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, vegetable oil, milk, vanilla extract, and eggs until smooth and creamy.

Step 4

Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until the batter is just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 5

Fold in the dark chocolate chips using a spatula, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Step 6

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and peanut butter together until light and fluffy.

Step 10

Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the milk and continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

Step 11

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread an even layer of peanut butter frosting on top.

Step 12

Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake evenly with the remaining frosting.

Step 13

Optional: Garnish the cake with mini peanut butter cups, crushed peanuts, or both for extra decadence.

Step 14

Slice and serve your Death by Peanut Butter Cake. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
