Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 4 pieces Hamburger buns
  • 4 pieces Cheddar cheese slices (optional)
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves (optional)
  • 4 pieces Tomato slices (optional)
  • 4 slices Pickles (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix the ingredients gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to prevent tough burgers.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4-inch thick. Use your thumb to create a small indent in the middle of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and heat until shimmering.

Step 4

Place the patties in the skillet or on the grill pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium doneness. Adjust the cooking time depending on your preferred level of doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top during the last minute of cooking, if desired.

Step 5

While the patties cook, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a toaster or on a separate grill pan until golden brown.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by placing a cooked patty onto the bottom half of a toasted bun. Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and any desired condiments like ketchup or mustard. Cover with the top half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve the burgers immediately with your favorite sides like fries, coleslaw, or a simple green salad. Enjoy!
