Ingredients

  • 200 grams Pitted dates
  • 120 ml Water
  • 125 grams Unsalted butter
  • 150 grams Dark chocolate chips
  • 100 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 100 grams All-purpose flour
  • 30 grams Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 50 grams Chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the brownies out easily after baking.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, combine the pitted dates and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the dates break down into a paste, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a heatproof bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate chips together using a microwave or a double boiler. Stir until smooth and fully combined.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs until pale and slightly thickened.

Fold in the date mixture and melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture until well combined.
