Ingredients

  • 200 grams Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
  • 2 Oranges, fresh
  • 250 ml Water
  • 2 tablespoons Honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch Pinch of salt

Directions

Step 1

Peel the oranges, making sure to remove all the white pith. Slice one orange into rounds and set aside. Juice the second orange and reserve the juice.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped dates, reserved orange juice, and water.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 4

Stir in the honey (or maple syrup), ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.

Step 5

Add the sliced orange rounds to the saucepan and gently simmer the mixture for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the dates have softened and the mixture thickens.

Step 6

Remove the compote from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Step 7

Serve the compote warm or at room temperature. Enjoy it as a topping for yogurt, granola, pancakes, or desserts, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
