Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 pieces burger buns
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 pieces lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 8 slices pickles, sliced
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1-inch thick. Make a small indent in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on one side until nicely browned. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium doneness.

Step 5

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt slightly.

Step 6

While the patties are cooking, split the burger buns in half. Spread butter on the cut sides and toast them on a griddle or pan until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers: Start with the bottom bun, then layer with lettuce, a cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, red onion rings, and pickle slices. Spread 1 tablespoon each of ketchup and mayonnaise on the top bun and place it on top.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite side dish, such as fries or a salad. Enjoy your Darren's Home Burger!
