Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened coconut milk (or other dairy-free milk)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (optional, for flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, instant yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes, until the mixture is foamy.

Step 2

Add the olive oil, unsweetened coconut milk, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.

Step 3

Gradually add the all-purpose flour, one cup at a time, mixing well with a wooden spoon or your hands until the dough comes together and is slightly sticky.

Step 4

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Add a small amount of flour as needed if the dough is too sticky, but avoid over-flouring.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.

Step 7

On a floured surface, roll out each ball of dough into an oval or circle, about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 8

Heat a large non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place one rolled-out naan into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface and the bottom is golden brown.

Step 9

Flip the naan and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes, until golden spots appear.

Step 10

Repeat the cooking process with the remaining pieces of dough, keeping the cooked naan warm under a clean towel.

Step 11

For additional flavor, optionally brush the warm naan with minced garlic and sprinkle with fresh cilantro before serving.

Step 12

Serve immediately with your favorite curries, dips, or as a standalone treat.
