Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium, finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves, minced garlic
  • 0.5 cup dairy-free breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces, sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, 1/2 of the chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty, approximately 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook them until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining half of the onions and the sliced mushrooms. Sauté until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are tender, about 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Pour the beef broth into the skillet with the onions and mushrooms. Return the beef patties to the skillet.

Step 6

Bring the mixture to a simmer, cover, and cook for an additional 10 minutes to ensure the patties are cooked through.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water until smooth to create a slurry.

Step 8

Gradually stir the cornstarch slurry into the pan with the beef and mushroom mixture, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 9

Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed, before serving.

Step 10

Serve the dairy-free Salisbury steaks hot with the mushroom gravy spooned over the top.
