Ingredients

  • 300 g All-purpose flour
  • 50 g Sugar
  • 7 g Active dry yeast
  • 5 g Salt
  • 180 ml Warm water
  • 30 ml Vegetable oil
  • 400 g Prepared red bean paste
  • 10 g Sesame seeds (optional for topping)

Directions

Step 1

1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, active dry yeast, and salt. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.

Step 2

2. Slowly pour in the warm water and vegetable oil into the flour mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.

Step 3

3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.

Step 4

4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Step 5

5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove any air bubbles and transfer it back to the floured surface.

Step 6

6. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it into a disk about 3 inches in diameter.

Step 7

7. Place 1-2 tablespoons of prepared red bean paste in the center of each disk. Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch them together to seal the bun. Make sure there are no gaps or holes.

Step 8

8. Place the sealed buns seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them loosely with plastic wrap or a cloth and let them rest for 15 minutes.

Step 9

9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the buns are resting.

Step 10

10. Optionally, brush the tops of the buns with a little water and sprinkle sesame seeds for garnish.

Step 11

11. Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Step 12

12. Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your dairy-free red bean buns!
