Ingredients

  • 240 ml Warm water
  • 7 g Active dry yeast
  • 25 g Sugar
  • 500 g Bread flour
  • 10 g Salt
  • 50 g Pumpkin seeds
  • 30 ml Maple syrup

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir to dissolve and let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

Add the bread flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well until a dough forms.

Step 3

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.

Step 7

Using your thumb, poke a hole through the center of each ball and gently stretch it to form a bagel shape.

Step 8

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the maple syrup.

Step 9

Boil the bagels in batches, 1-2 minutes per side, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 10

Sprinkle the tops of the bagels with pumpkin seeds, pressing gently so they adhere.

Step 11

Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Step 12

Allow the bagels to cool on a wire rack before serving.
